Selecting a Sample Rate for Measurement Systems

The choice of a channel’s sampling rate (number of measurements per second, or simply the sampling frequency) may determine whether or not a measurement returns useful results. If data are sampled at too high a rate, the measurement results may be useful, but the amount of data accumulated is unnecessarily high, wasting memory or storage,

perhaps limiting the portion of the signal of interest which can be saved, or at least increasing the time and complexity of post processing. But if the sampling rate is too low, the entire measurement may become useless.

So what is the “correct“ sampling rate and what role does the antialiasing filter play in determining it?

The Whitepaper, you can download here (login required), is intended to provide some guidance.
